"I Just Work Here" presents: Truth Hurts, Don't It?
I sincerely hope no one is feeling sorry for the phantoms.
This strip was important because it's the first time a client has directly contradicted the phantom's (false) notion that all clients lie. As the writer I do my best to make the phantoms appear as over-the-top as possible, but sometimes I worry the message doesn't come through as clear as it should. The phantoms' conviction all clients are liars out to defraud the system is meant to be ridiculous to the point of laughter, not a subliminal message that becoming a fraud investigator has left me jaded beyond redemption. So, yes: the purpose of this strip is to show the phantoms are nuts. ...And to draw Fred looking like a fallen leaf in the 5th panel, which I found hilarious. ^_^
